Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Los Angeles, CA

The eyes are one of the most noticed facial features. With the passage of time, or just based on your family genetics, excess eyelid skin and bags can form, creating an older and tired look on the upper and lower eyelids. With cosmetic eyelid surgery, Dr. Bresnick can remove excess eyelid skin and fatty tissue, giving a more youthful and vibrant appearance!

Dr. Bresnick offers the latest, state-of-the-art techniques to improve the eyelids aesthetically. A cosmetic surgery called eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty or an eye lift, can restore a youthful appearance by trimming excess skin and eliminating eye bags. In some patients, blepharoplasty can even improve vision by lifting the eyelids out of the line of sight.

Dr. Bresnick uses the following procedures to correct the eyelids:

During an upper eyelid surgery procedure, an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and may extend into a natural crow’s foot line. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed and contouring of the eyelid is performed. Once healed, this upper eyelid incision is well camouflaged and naturally hidden whenever the eye is open. Upper eyelid surgery can dramatically improve your overall facial appearance.

With this technique (also known as the “scar-less lower eyelid technique” or “transconjunctival blepharoplasty”) excess lower eyelid fat is removed with an incision completely hidden inside the eyelid. In terms of scarring, the eyelids will look untouched since the incision is not visible. Depending on the extent of your facial aging, this procedure performed alone might be just what you need to freshen up your appearance.

During the lower eye lift procedure, excess fat and skin are removed with an incision hidden just below the lower eyelashes. The incision is very well concealed and is virtually invisible once it has healed. For many patients, the lower eyelid is also tightened in this procedure, giving a more youthful eyelid shape and tone.

Patients who have loose or droopy lower eyelids or just desire more youthfully positioned lower lids may benefit from a tightening procedure of the lower eyelid. In this procedure, the lower lid is lifted and tightened with a small, inconspicuous incision.

For patients desiring maximal improvement in the eyelid/brow area, Dr. Bresnick can perform both eyelid lifting and forehead/brow lifting together, rejuvenating the entire upper face. In this procedure, the forehead is tightened, wrinkles are smoothed away, the brows are elevated, and the upper eyelids are restored to a more youthful, attractive appearance.

Patients aren’t limited to a single option for eyelid rejuvenation. Some patients will receive both an upper and lower eye lift. Others may receive an eyelid lift with skin tightening. Dr. Bresnick may also recommend pairing your eyelid surgery with other facial plastic surgery procedures like a facelift.

A consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon will help you narrow down your options and choose the best procedure, or combination of procedures, for your situation. Call us to book your consultation in our Los Angeles, CA office.

What to Expect from Your Blepharoplasty Experience

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is performed in Dr. Bresnick’s fully accredited surgical center, Encino Surgicenter. You may choose either local anesthesia or light general anesthesia for your procedure. We’ll explain the pros and cons of each anesthetic option so you can make an informed choice that you feel comfortable with.

Each surgery is different and is customized to the patient’s aesthetic needs and goals. Dr. Bresnick relies on more than 25 years of plastic surgery experience to create visually stunning results for each patient. During your initial consultation, a custom treatment plan will be created for you.

After the procedure has been completed, most patients are ready to return home in about an hour or so, sooner if the procedure was performed using only local anesthesia. There is little discomfort after eyelid surgery, and no nursing care is required. However, you should arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from your procedure and to assist you the night of surgery with icing the eyelid area.

The day after surgery, Dr. Bresnick will see you in the office to monitor your healing and answer any questions about your recovery. Some bruising and swelling in the eyelid area is expected, but sunglasses nicely hide these very temporary changes. Most patients return to work in about one week, although many patients are able to work from home a few days after surgery.

Customize Your Treatment Plan

Dr. Bresnick offers a full range of the top plastic surgery procedures, allowing you to create a custom treatment plan personalized to your needs. Many patients who desire improvement of the eyelids wish to have other procedures performed at the same time.

In addition to providing comprehensive rejuvenation, this also allows patients to recover from multiple treatments at once, reducing the overall potential downtime. Patients often include some of the following procedures in their overall treatment plan:

  • Forehead Lift (Browlift): The forehead lift restores a more youthful forehead by lifting the brows and tightening the forehead area. This is one of our most popular pairings with eyelid lift surgery.
  • Facelift: facelift is an excellent option for rejuvenating the lower face including the cheeks and jawline.
  • Lip Augmentation: Lip augmentation creates fuller, youthful lips and smooths vertical lines around the mouth. We offer both surgical and non-surgical options for lip rejuvenation.
  • Laser Resurfacing or Dermabrasion: Laser resurfacing and dermabrasion improve skin quality, smooth lines and wrinkles, and treat sun damage.
  • Cosmetic Breast Surgery: Revitalize your breasts with breast augmentation or a breast lift.
  • Tummy Tuck: Restore a tight, flat abdominal area with a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty.
  • Liposuction: Liposuction removes fatty tissue from problem areas like the abdomen, back, thighs, hips, knees, upper arms, under the chin, and neck.

If you want to pair your blepharoplasty procedure with another plastic surgery treatment, let Dr. Bresnick know during your consultation. He can recommend specific treatments to target and treat your problem areas.

FAQ’s About Eyelid Surgery in Encino

Yes. Both men and women undergo eyelid surgery in significant numbers. Eyelid surgery is one of the most popular facial cosmetic procedures among men. Lax skin around the eyelids can make both men and women look tired even when they feel fresh, and old when they feel young. An eyelift in Encino is an incredible way to overcome these concerns.

There’s no “right” age for eyelid surgery. It comes down to when it’s needed. Some people have the operation in their late teens or early 20s to correct problems unrelated to aging, while others have it in their 30s or 40s when their eyelids start to droop or form bags. Older patients, in their 50s and 60s, often combine a facelift with eyelid surgery.

Eyelid surgery alone doesn’t do much to eliminate crow’s feet, though the tightening may smooth some fine wrinkles around the eyes. For deeper lines, Botox or dermal fillers can help. Our Los Angeles eyelid surgery experts will help you find the best option for eye wrinkles.

Your eyes will look normal again after two or three weeks when the swelling disappears and will continually look better week by week. You’ll also see significant improvements at six weeks and even more at six months. Final results can be seen in about a year.

A drooping upper eyelid can be the result of loose skin on the eyelid or a lowering of the eyebrows. In your consultation, Dr. Bresnick will advise you about which procedure you might need or if you might benefit from both. You can get a sense of where the problem lies by gently pushing up your eyebrows to an attractive height. If this corrects the looseness on your upper eyelids, it may be that your brows need to be lifted.

The results of blepharoplasty are very long-lasting. Most patients never have another procedure to further lift the eyelids or reduce bags. That said, eyelid surgery won’t stop the aging process. Your eyelids or eyebrows may continue to gradually droop, and some patients choose to have a touch-up procedure after 10 years or so.
