Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?

Women seek breast augmentation for a variety of reasons, such as wanting to correct changes after pregnancy and aging or simply to achieve a more proportionate figure. Ideal candidates for this procedure include women who exhibit the following:

  • Naturally small breasts
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Decrease in breast volume after pregnancy, aging, or breastfeeding

If your breasts have lost their shape and firmness, you may want to consider a breast lift as well. This surgery is designed to reposition the breasts on the chest wall and remove any excess skin. When performed with breast augmentation, this combination can fully rejuvenate the appearance of your breasts.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Bresnick will carefully recommend the best treatment plan to reach your cosmetic goals after an examination.

Los Angeles Breast Augmentation FAQ

Selecting your implant size is an essential part of your aesthetic journey and requires your surgeon’s artistic insight. During your consultation, Dr. Bresnick will help you decide on a size that would best achieve your desired look. He prides himself on visualizing what kind of enhancements would best compliment a patient’s figure and natural proportions.

Your incision options include the following:

Periareolar: around the edges of the areola.

Inframammary: in the breast crease where the breast meets the chest wall.

Transaxillary: in the underarm.

As with any surgery, breast enlargement surgery does require an incision. In most cases, Dr. Bresnick will make these incisions in concealed areas, so your scars will heal discreetly. The periareolar incision is in an area that naturally changes color and texture. Hence, scars are hardly noticeable once healed. The inframammary incision is within the breast crease, and the transaxillary incision places an incision in the underarm crease.

Because breast implant surgeon Dr. Bresnick uses the latest surgical techniques, patients can expect to have a much shorter and more comfortable recovery than traditional methods. It’s common to experience swelling and feelings of tightness in your breasts for the first week. Most patients feel comfortable driving and returning to work within five days. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity for up to six weeks.

The answer is no! Breast implants do not cause breast cancer as demonstrated by many studies.  However, breast cancer is common in the United States, affecting up to 1 in 8 women in their lifetimes.  Breast cancer screening needs to be ongoing after age 40 for all women. Numerous clinical studies show implants do not hinder the patient or their physician in finding tumors. Lastly, breast implant patients who develop breast cancer have an equal chance of attaining remission as women without implants.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding may change the shape and size of your breasts, whether you have implants or not.  However, many of Dr. Bresnick’s patients still look great after having children when implants were placed prior to childbearing. This typically depends on how much breast tissue is present before surgery. Nursing with implants is possible and proven safe for mother and baby.

Most of our patients retain good sensation after surgery. This typically depends on how large your implants are, as oversized implants may tend to stretch the sensation nerves. Placing implants through an incision below the breast in the crease may help as well. It is possible that you can have some sensation reduction, but for most patients, a good deal of sensation returns within a year. As the best breast augmentation surgeon in Los Angeles, Dr. Bresnick can minimize your risks of sensation alteration.

Recovering from breast augmentation surgery involves some discomfort that you can manage with medication for the first few days after surgery.   Discomfort can be limited by how smoothly the procedure is performed.  Dr. Bresnick is so experienced in placing implants, that he has learned to do the procedure as smoothly as possible minimizing swelling and bruising.

You can start driving within 5 – 7 days after surgery, especially if you are no longer taking pain medication.

Most women who choose the surgery are in their 20’s and 30s and have considered the procedure for years. However, women in their 40s and 50s have come to us for breast augmentation surgery with excellent outcomes. We replace implants for women in their 50’s – 70’s.  Whatever season in life you are in, if you are interested in learning more about breast implants in Los Angeles, schedule a consultation to discover how to achieve your cosmetic goals.

Breast augmentation costs vary depending on various factors such as the surgeon’s experience, the type of implant chosen, the surgical facility, and additional fees. It’s always recommended to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon for accurate and up-to-date pricing information.
