Liposuction

Liposuction in Los Angeles, CA

Liposuction and liposculpture are one of our most popular procedures, and can help you achieve an ideal shape. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, this procedure offers natural-looking, long-lasting results. This safe and effective procedure allows the removal of unwanted fatty tissue and a sculpting of various areas of the body.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a safe and effective cosmetic procedure where excess fat from beneath the skin is removed and the body is reshaped. The best results in liposuction are achieved with a meticulous surgeon, like Dr. Bresnick, who takes the time to carefully contour and reduce fat in body areas such as the thighs, hips, and abdomen. With small, carefully concealed incisions, unwanted fat is removed and the desired areas are recontoured and shaped.

Liposuction is popular because of the dramatic improvements that can be achieved, the small incision size, and the rapid healing that follows surgery. The most common areas treated with liposuction include the thighs, hips, abdomen, love handles (flanks), lower back, arms, knees, and neck. Other areas such as the upper back, calves, ankles, and chest (gynecomastia) can also be treated.

Types of Liposuction

Dr. Bresnick performs both tumescent liposuction and power assisted liposuction (PAL). We’ll discuss each of these options in detail during your consultation. This discussion will help us determine which treatment option will best meet your needs.

Both types of liposuction we offer start with the same basic technique. Small incisions are made in discreet locations. Dr. Bresnick inserts a cannula, or small tube, into the incision. Suction is applied to remove the fat cells from the body. The incisions are closed, and the treated area is wrapped in a compression garment.

  • Tumescent Liposuction: Tumescent liposuction is a technique in which a solution of local anesthetic and saline is injected into the fat. The fat is softened and is more easily suctioned through the addition of this extra fluid. This method reduces bleeding and bruising and allows for a more precise result.
  • Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL): Power assisted liposuction uses a special vibrating instrument to loosen and separate fat cells. This technique is ideal for dense areas like the back or upper abdomen. It is often done in conjunction with tumescent liposuction.

At your consultation, Dr. Bresnick will review the advantages of each of these techniques and develop a customized treatment plan for you.

Common Questions and Answers for Liposuction

  • Who Is the Best Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is best performed on a healthy patient who is at a stable weight and desires to improve their shape and contour. A patient does not have to be thin to have liposuction. However, this body contouring procedure is a technique to make a person look better, not a way to lose weight.

This treatment removes fat very effectively, but it does not tighten skin. We see the best treatment results on patients with tight, elastic skin. If your skin quality has diminished, Dr. Bresnick may recommend a lift, like an arm lift or thigh lift, either with your treatment or instead of liposuction. Your consultation will be key to understanding the best treatment option.

  • How Is Liposuction Performed?

We perform all of our surgical treatments at the Encino Surgicenter, a safe and accredited surgical facility located next to our plastic surgery offices. Most liposuction procedures are done with patients lightly asleep as an outpatient procedure. Small tubes, known as cannulas, are used to remove fatty tissue, sculpt body areas, and improve contour. At the end of surgery, patients are placed in a supportive garment. Most patients return home within an hour or two of surgery.

Dr. Bresnick will check on you the day after surgery. You will be provided special garments for your recovery and can wear these under your clothing for several weeks after surgery. These garments are like a leotard and support the treated areas to speed healing and reduce swelling. Most patients can return to work within a week or less and may resume exercise within 4-6 weeks.

  • Is Liposuction Safe?

Dr. Bresnick has performed thousands of liposuction cases with an outstanding safety record. His patients have enjoyed great results in a safe and caring environment. The key to a good, safe result is a well-trained surgeon, a good anesthetist, and a quality surgery center. Dr. Bresnick’s office has all of these features and more.

When receiving a surgical body contouring treatment, make sure you work with a trained and experienced plastic surgeon. Dr. Bresnick is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which is a demonstration of his commitment to plastic surgery training and expertise. Dr. Bresnick and the rest of the staff at our practice are committed to patient safety.

  • When Will I See Improvement in My Appearance After Liposuction?

Patients will notice a big difference in their appearance the very next day after surgery. Each day, bruising and swelling decreases and the new body contours become more visible. It is exciting to see the new you appearing as the healing process continues. By three to four weeks after surgery, a good amount of healing will have taken place and by six to eight weeks, it will be time to go clothes shopping!

Liposuction results can last for many years since fat cells don’t regenerate during adulthood as long as body weight remains stable. Patients who maintain a stable, consistent weight will likely enjoy lasting results. Many patients never experience stubborn fat pockets in that same area again.

  • What Is Recovery Like After Liposuction?

Most patients are back to their regular activities quickly after surgery. Plan on taking up to a week off from work. Dr. Bresnick will advise you of when you can exercise and travel. Recovery time is usually based on the number of areas treated, your age, and whether or not other procedures were performed.

  • When Will I Be Bikini Ready After Liposuction?

Patients experience dramatic change in their appearance almost immediately after treatment. Bruising and swelling are common but fade quickly. Many patients are comfortable wearing a bikini just 4-6 weeks after surgery. It can take several months for all swelling to dissipate, but this doesn’t keep most patients from enjoying their results much sooner.
