Silicone vs Saline Breast Implants – Which is Better for You?
When you meet with Dr. Bresnick, we will review all your current choices of breast implants. All the implants we use are safe and effective, as well as being approved by the FDA. Today, our patients have several nice choices to add breast fullness. We offer three types of implants:
- Silicone Gel Implants – also known as silicone cohesive gel implants. These are the most popular implants used in our practice and throughout the country. Silicone gel implants are very soft and feel natural. They are also best with thin patients or patients who have less breast tissue. Most of our patients prefer silicone gel as they feel and move like a real breast.
- Form Stable Silicone Implants – These are often known as “Gummy Bear” implants. They are firmer than silicone gel, but softer than saline implants. These implants are teardrop shaped. They require at least a “B” cup of breast tissue for the best results. The breasts move less than with silicone implants, but may offer the advantage of less breast implant settling with time.
- Saline Implants – these implants are filled with saline, or salt water solution. Saline implants are rounder than silicone and tend to sit higher in the breast. Saline implants are a good choice for some patients, but they may feel less natural than silicone implants, especially in thin patients.
At your consultation with Dr. Bresnick, you will have an opportunity to feel and examine each of the implant types, silicone gel, silicone form stable, and saline implants to see which may be best for you. Dr. Bresnick will provide you a customized plan to help your procedure be a success!
