What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a safe and effective cosmetic procedure where excess fat from beneath the skin is removed and the body is reshaped. With small, carefully concealed incisions, unwanted fat is removed and the desired areas are recontoured and shaped.
Liposuction is popular because of the dramatic improvements that can be achieved, the small incision size, and the rapid healing that follows surgery. The most common areas treated with liposuction include the thighs, hips, abdomen, love handles (flanks), lower back, arms, knees, and neck. Types of Liposuction

Dr. Bresnick performs both tumescent liposuction and power assisted liposuction (PAL). We’ll discuss each of these options in detail during your consultation. This discussion will help us determine which treatment option will best meet your needs.
Both types of liposuction we offer start with the same basic technique. Small incisions are made in discreet locations. Dr. Bresnick inserts a cannula, or small tube, into the incision. Suction is applied to remove the fat cells from the body. The incisions are closed, and the treated area is wrapped in a compression garment.
Tumescent Liposuction:
One of Dr. Bresnick’s most popular forms of liposuction is Power-Assissted Tumescent Liposuction. More effective, less painful, and safer than older techniques, tumescent liposuction increases the accuracy of fat cell removal, has a quicker recovery time, and is performed as an outpatient procedure. The procedure is performed with a hand-held vibrating fine tube which oscillates and helps loosen fat for easier removal. The technique is also precise and leads to smoother skin and more pleasing contours.
With this liposuction technique, a solution of saline, lidocaine (a local anesthetic), and epinephrine (a vasoconstrictor that temporarily shrinks blood vessels) is injected into the targeted area. During this process, the fat is softened and swelling and bruising is minimized. Unwanted fat is more easily removed via a cannula placed through tiny incisions under the skin and into the target area. Dr. Bresnick carefully and precisely removes the excess fat deposits as he sculpts and contours the area using the cannula. He then closes the incisions with dissolving sutures that do not require removal.
Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL):
Dr. Bresnick is one of the most experienced plastic surgeons in this technique, having been one of the first physicians in Los Angeles to master the technique. This liposuction method involves utilizing a vibrating cannula which helps remove fat with less trauma to the body. Dr. Bresnick has been performing PAL for over 15 years and has treated over 1,000 patients with outstanding results! He has found that the PAL technique produces very smooth contouring results and maintains skin tone better than traditional liposuction techniques.
